BBMag went in search of the Brazilian designers taking the UK market by storm to discover the inspiration behind their latest collections

London is an important stop on the worldwide fashion circuit, alongside New York, Milan and Paris, and welcomes trendsetters, journalists and celebrities from around the world.

Unquestionably, it is the most cutting-edge and innovative of the major shows, and has given rise to some of the fashion industry’s most revered and influential names, including Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood.

The latest edition of London Fashion Week kicks off today, 15 September, with a busy programme of catwalks, showrooms and presentations, throwing London into fashionista frenzy and providing a backdrop for major labels to present their collections for spring and summer 2018.

With this pulsating atmosphere, it’s little wonder that the capital is a hot destination for Brazilian designers seeking to further their career in this demanding and creative environment.

Bárbara Casasola

Bárbara’s timeless and classic-modern collections, inspired by contemporary Brazil, have been featured in fashion editorials across Europe. She has been a guest at London Fashion Week since 2014 and has received further invitations such as “Guest Women’s Wear Designer” (2014) at Pitti Uomo, the Italian men’s fashion fair, and awards for “Breakthrough Designer of the Year” (2015) and WGSN Global Fashion Awards.

Janice Perez

Janice, from Belo Horizonte, creates fashion accessories from unusual materials such as Brazilian demolition wood and jacaranda wood and finishing stones without stoning. Given such repurposing of materials, the notion of sustainability is embedded in the label’s DNA. Her rings and pendants are exclusive and one of a kind. She made her debut at the London Fashion Week in 2013.

Valdenize Soares

Valdenize produces her own pieces in her London-based studio and had her first big break in February 2017 at one of the major fashion week events, Fashion Finest. Her retro-inspired dresses wowed guests for their originality and elegance. From the Paraíba region, Valdenize’s work is strongly influenced by the colourful and vibrant culture found in the Northeast of Brazil, framing a strong and sensual woman, one that epitomizes the brand. London Fashion Week runs from 15 to 19 September, followed by an exclusive event for the public at the London Fashion Week Festival, from 21 to 24 September.
