Stage reading of Nelson Rodrigues work in London

0

Stage reading is a form of theatre in which actors read a literary work out loud, whilst interpreting it for the public. In an effort to promote the work of the Brazilian playwright Nelson Rodrigues to the British public, a special reading is to be put on of his great success “Perdoa-me por me traíres” (Forgive me for your Betrayal).

Nelson Rodrigues was born in the state of Pernambuco and is one of Brazil’s most important playwrights. His work, written between 1940 and 1970, revolutionized Brazilian theatre. More than an artist, Rodrigues has gone on to be revered as an icon of Brazilian culture. The way he explored the deepest human instincts and their moral conflicts was innovative and highly challenging for the times.

Translated into English, his piece ‘Forgive me for your Betrayal’ is to be directed by Ramiro Silveira, and brings together a cast of international actors (among them Nelson Sacha Rodrigues, the playwright’s grandson).

Adding to the cabaret atmosphere, the musical director Stephen Douse and his band will provide a live soundtrack, combining world and Brazilian music in a fusion of rhythms.

The show is all set to be unmissable!
