Lovers of the art can, thanks to the Internet, now explore works and exhibitions around the world without leaving the house
One blessing of today’s virtual universe, in which we are evermore connected, is the sharing of information among our networks. This sharing may simply concern the posting of a family photograph on Facebook, but stretches also to incorporate the sharing of more profound information, like doctoral theses, for example. And, of course, this sharing extends to the world of art lovers.
Today’s massive circulation of data allows everyone, as long as they have an Internet connection and an appropriate device, to access virtually anything they want, and whenever they want. Hence, we are able to explore and experience exhibitions, events, festivals and all kinds of attractions with just a simple click.
With this in mind, we have selected some fantastic websites that we think will help stimulate a little appreciation for Brazilian art.
Associação Cultural Vídeobrasil
Since its foundation in 1991, the association has collated an impressive collection of online videos, exhibitions, presentations and other cultural manifestations from countries in the southern geo-political region – Latin America, Africa, Eastern Europe, Asia and the Middle East – which includes a number of global classics. Furthermore, every two years the association organises a festival designed specifically for this segment.
The largest Brazilian museum dedicated to the history of Imperial Brazil, especially the period of King D. Pedro II. The museum has made hundreds of documents, photos, and other artefacts available online.
Biblioteca Brasiliana Guita e José Mindlin
The library, donated to USP by bibliophile José Mindlin and his wife Guita, houses a catalogue of more than 32,000 books, all collected over a period of 80 years. Some kind soul has decided to transfer many of these books to the library’s online collection, where you can now check out famous titles from consecrated Brazilian authors like Cruz and Sousa and Machado de Assis, among others.
