Shakespeare Photography Exhibition

0

The Shakespeare exhibition was in Brazil between February and March, as an opening event for a project from the Brazilian British Centre – “Shakespeare lives”. The project is part of the commemorations of the 400th anniversary of the bard’s death, and has now come to London, in the Brazil Room of the Embassy of Brazil in London.

The exhibition is the work of artist Ellie Kurttz, a Brazilian ex-pat living in London for the past 20 years. One of her most significant pieces of work has been with the Royal Shakespeare Company, one of the UK’s biggest and most important theatre companies. Kurttz is recognised as one of the best theatre photographers in England, whose pictures are known for their beauty, lightness and intensity.

The project brings together photos from over twelve years of Ellie’s development, including a large selection of Shakespeare plays, along with backstage shots. Her work captures the essence of British theatre and culture, with impressive shots printed on large-scale fabrics. Quite a few of the exhibition’s pictures are of famous actors and actresses, such as Ian McKellen, Judi Dench and Patrick Stewart.

When: Until 30 July

Where: Sala Brasil | Embassy of Brazil in London

Time: Tuesdays to Saturdays, 11am-6pm
