Known by many as “Queen”, Elza Soares has been a prominent Brazilian artist since the 1950s. With her husky and distinctive voice, the singer has always represented her true roots, giving a voice to oppressed women, the gay community and marginalised workers from Brazilian shanty towns.
In her new album, A Mulher do Fim do Mundo (The Woman from the End of the World), the singer from Rio teamed up with various avant-garde musicians from São Paulo to create a new contemporary sound, a mix of samba and electric rock.
Elsa performs in London this November in a show that will also feature some unnamed special guests.
When: 13 November, 7.30pm
Where: Barbican Centre – Silk Street, London EC2Y 8DS
