Tattoos & Piercings
Tattoos & Piercings are one of Brazilian culture’s specialities.
The history books state that the tattoo has been invented a number of times, with no identifiable place of origin or specific inventor. The art developed along the centuries, in every continent, with different intentions, motives, techniques and results.
In Brazil, the man responsible for the modern tattoo was a Danish man called Knud Harald Lucky Gegersen. He arrived in the country in 1959 and settled in Santos, on the coastline of São Paulo state, earning the nickname ‘Mr. Tattoo’, or sometimes just ‘Lucky’. For many years he was the continent’s only professional tattoo artist, until his followers started employing his techniques themselves and making their own tattoos.
What should you take into account when choosing a good tattoo studio or tattoo artist?
In any kind of establishment it is very important to take note if its daily activities. A high quality place will always offer the highest quality products. Tattoo studios are no different, and there are certain characteristics which one must pay attention to if one wants to know if a particular establishment or tattoo artist is trustworthy or not. Any commercial establishment must have a license which has been issued by the city council. Part of the process of applying for such a license requires a visit from the hygiene supervisory body, as tattooing is an activity which can lead to contamination if not carried out according to hygiene standards. A high quality establishment must have its sanitary regulations in order, and the tattoos themselves must be very well done, which requires an experienced professional.
Tattooists are artists who, instead of painting on canvas, paint people’s bodies. The aesthetic beauty of the artwork is fundamental, after all, you will be wearing it for the rest of your life on your body, so it needs to be attractive, original and unique.
