The London Caipirinha Festival is the UK’s largest Brazilian food and drink competition and pits local London-based bars and restaurants against each other as they battle it out for the accolades on offer, including “Best Caipirinha ” and “Best Exotic Caipirinha “, among other categories. But what is involved?

The public for one, which will be encouraged to visit the competing bars and restaurants of the festival and try their respective caipirinhas, before voting for their favourites online. To encourage people to get involved there will also be a range of exclusive prizes on offer. For example, those that cast their votes on the festival’s website will automatically be in the running to win any one of the following prizes: a 2 night-stay in a Rio de Janeiro hotel; a 1 night-stay in a London hotel; a bottle of cachaça; dinner at a Brazilian restaurant in London.

Participating establishments will compete across a range of categories, including best original caipirinha, best fruit caipirinha, the best exotic caipirinha, best cachaça, best bartender, best bar, best Brazilian restaurant, best Brazilian food, best fruit, best gastronomy fusion, best service, best location, among others. Each voting member of the public can only cast their vote once in each establishment, with duplicate votes being annulled.

Throughout the competition the participating establishments not only have their caipirinhas, food and service judged by the public, but also by a panel of critics and opinion makers. This panel’s vote will carry an equal weighting to the public vote, 50% each. The final results will be collated by the festival organisers and announced on 31 July.

“The London Caip Fest is the largest celebration of Brazilian culture of its kind and puts one of the world’s most cherished cocktails, the cairpirinha, centre stage. This year, in addition to the festival in London, we also staged the Brasil Caip Fest Madrid 2018, hence helping to promote the caipirinha, cachaça, and Brazilian gastronomy across Europe,” said Glauco Chris Fuzinatto, creator of the festival.
