Enjoy a fun-packed festival of live entertainment and alfresco eating and drinking at Underbelly Festival in South Bank
Stretching throughout the summer, the Underbelly Festival returns for the 11th year with stages full of affordable circus, theatre, cabaret, comedy, music and children’s shows on the south bank of the Thames. You can also drop by the free-to-enter festival site to tuck into street food from the riverside vendors and grab a drink at one of London’s biggest outdoor bars, including the Rekorderlig Botanicals bar and Pimm’s Hut.
This year’s line-up of top comedians includes Mark Watson, John Robins, Vikki Stone, Abandoman and Fin Taylor. There’s also a new Saturday night show, London Comedy Allstars, featuring a mixed bill with performances from Josie Long, Ed Gamble, Phil Wang, Dane Baptiste, Felicity Ward, Ahir Shah and more. You’ll be able to catch more comedy as part of the festival’s new two-week season Podcast Live, which brings to the stage a variety of funny and engaging podcasts.
Watch in awe as contemporary Australian circus troupe Gravity & Other Myths shuns the glitz and glamour to create a fresh, dynamic performance in A Simple Space. Plus, enjoy weird and wonderful cabaret acts, including Bernie Dieter’s Little Death Club, one of the tops shows from the Edinburgh Festival and Yummy, a drag extravaganza.
It’s not just adults who can have fun, as Underbelly Festival puts on a range of shows and activities specially designed for children and families. Julie Donaldson brings her much-loved stories to life with live readings during the spectacular adaptation of The Gruffalo, The Witch and The Warthog.
Access to the outdoor bars and food stalls located on the Underbelly Festival site is free. Paid-for tickets are required to attend the live shows (£8.50 per ticket).
