Cineclub Brazil, organised by the Embassy of Brazil in London, is promoting its second screening of January.
The film My Sweet Orange Tree is a reinterpretation of a classic of Brazilian children’s literature, popular among generations of Brazilian children. Directed by Marcos Bernstein, the film sees the bright and imaginative side of a tough life, looking into how children think about death.
The story is based on the hard, poor life of Zezé, a bad boy who often escapes into his own imagination to find a way out from his problems. He finds friendship with Minguinho, an orange tree who he chats to and plays with. The script is quite poetic, as Zezé daydreams of a world in which he can find happiness.
