Rio 2016 – Information for local residents and businesses about road closures during the Olympics

As of July, a number of streets have been and continue to be affected by the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Local residents and businesses are advised to keep themselves up to date regarding such changes.

Deodoro Region

Residents whose roads have been blocked off for the Games will need to apply for a special sticker to put on their car, so as to be able to get access as usual.

Copacabana Region (Forte de Copacabana surroundings)

Residents of this area will need to keep their proof of address with them to get past the road blocks.

NB: When the roads are closed due to Street Races, residents will be unable to gain access, with or without proof of address.

Barra da Tijuca Region

Pontal: Local residents must ensure they carry their proof of address with them at all times.

NB: When the roads are closed due to Street Races, residents will be unable to gain access, with or without proof of address.

Olympic Park and Rio City Centre: Local residentes and businesses in these regions and their surroundings will receive ID Cards from their Residents Associations.

Maracanã Region

Residents who live around the Stadium will need to stick their ID on their cars to gain access to the streets immediately surrounding the Stadium. For the other blocked off areas, a proof of address is all that will be required.

Street Races

Marathon and Bike Races: Residents who live in areas that the Marathon and Bike Races pass through will need to have their proof of address with them on the days of these events.

NB: When the roads are closed due to Street Races, residents will be unable to gain access, with or without proof of address.
