Significant first quarter growth in Brazilian tourism and spending in the UK, according to new figures released by VisitBritain
From January to March this year, there were 53,000 registered visits made by Brazilians to the UK, an increase of 16% over the same period last year. Spending by Brazilians also increased by 16% to £43m.
Latest indications from ForwardKeys suggest that flight bookings from South America to the UK are up by 22% for the period of October to December 2017, compared to the same period in 2016.
The total number of Brazilians that visited the UK between January and June this year was 136,000, an increase of 49% over the same period in 2016. Travellers from Brazil spent £141m (R$650m) during the first half of 2017 across the UK, 91% more than in the first six months of 2016.
VisitBritain predicts that the total number of foreign visitors to the UK in 2017 will top 39.7 million, and will account for £25.7b of spending in the UK.
