The Teatro Amazonas was built in 1896. With sophisticated panels imported from Europe, its beautiful structure consists of a large iron frame built in Scotland, French-coloured brickwork and fresco paintings by the renowned Italian painter Domenico di Angelis. At that time – the 19th Century – the city of Manaus was one of the wealthiest and most developed in Latin America, clear proof that the Amazônia region is not only rich but also in history and culture.
